Has anyone ever invited Avalon to become a Canton of the Barony? As it is, they function as a large household. Since they include many long term residents, they are in a better position to maintain continuity of the Barony than any of the other units. Their "strange" fighting conventions can simply continue as household in-formalities.

We have discussed this briefly with some of the Avalon members and some SCA members who play with Avalon.
As it stands now, we would welcome Avalon with open arms if they chose to join the Barony as one (or more) Cantons. On the other hand, they currently have two baronies and their own traditions, and we have no intention of trying to interfere with them and we hope that our two groups can continue to grow and support one another.
We shall do our best to make the SCA an inviting and welcoming place where anyone who wishes may come and play, and we encourage our members to support all forms of historical recreation within their interests.

I just thought of something, after Friar Jak's comment that the C&T have needed revising for a while. Should we specifically spell out that a Right of the Populace is to bring any suggested or needed changes to the C&T to the attention of the Coronet? That makes it clear that this is a group effort and that the populace should feel free to point out when practice and custom/tradition differ. Tradition is worth respecting as long as it is working for the good of the Barony, but if it's not, and/or someone comes up with a potentially better idea, there is no shame or stigma in pointing that out and suggesting changes. - Abe Akirakeiko, Enlightened Despot
